FAQ -- Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ 1: What exactly is a “Life Coach”? What does a Life Coach do?
A: A 1996 article about Life Coaching in Newsweek Magazine put forward this often quoted description: "Part consultant, part motivational speaker, part therapist, and part rent-a-friend, coaches work with managers, entrepreneurs, and just plain folks, helping them define and achieve their goals—career, personal, or most often, both." I really like this definition. Life Coaching is all about helping you to clarify what you really want in your life, and then helping you to get from where you are to where you want to be. The life coaching relationship is future-focused, with the ultimate goal of helping you to achieve success and fulfillment in work, relationships, health, behavioural change—whatever areas you and your coach agree on. Your life coach will help you to identify your goals and articulate what you need to do to achieve those goals. Your coach will offer techniques and exercises to help you make the changes you decide are necessary, and help you to stay motivated while you go through the process of making those changes. And your coach will celebrate your achievements with you every step of the way.
FAQ 2: How Does Hypnosis Work with Coaching?
A: Hypnosis, which is also called hypnotherapy, is an excellent technique for making fast, effective, lasting change. When done at a deep trance level, hypnosis can help you to release old, outmoded behaviour patterns and limiting beliefs that have kept you from living to your full potential. Hypnotherapy enables you to revisit old issues with your adult or “now” awareness available to you, making it feel easier and safer to confront the fears and past events that have shaped your life. Hypnosis is a very safe and effective technique. You person cannot be hypnotized against your will, and you are always able to reject a suggestion that you do not agree with or that goes against your personal values. What hypnosis does do, is help the subconscious mind to accept suggestions, which have been discussed and agreed upon by you and your coach beforehand, making thought pattern and behavioural changes easier, faster and longer lasting than coaching alone can achieve.
FAQ 3: What is Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), and how does it help BEST LIFE COACHING Clients?
A: Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT, is a non-invasive activation of acupuncture/acupressure meridian points by lightly tapping on them with the fingers. The EFT tapping points most commonly used are on the head, face, upper body and hands. EFT is remarkably effective in helping you to access underlying emotional blocks that are preventing behavioural change. EFT can also help take the pressure off a big or very painful issue—a little like lifting the bell on a pressure cooker—helping you feel more comfortable and safer when approaching the issue for resolution and clearing. It is also very helpful in dealing with physical pain, even pain from old injuries. EFT has the added advantage of being easily practiced by the client. It is a portable technique that can have an immediate calming effect, and also works well on stress or physical pain. It is a marvellous tool for coaching that works wonderfully alone or together with hypnosis or NLP. FAQ 4: How does Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) help coaching clients to make lasting behavioural changes.
A: Neurolinguistic Programming, or NLP, is a technique developed in the late 20th century. NLP is very effective for supporting the behavioural and thought pattern alterations needed to make lasting changes like stopping smoking and sustaining weight loss. NLP techniques often use touch anchors and/or imagery to help you to activate the new behaviour or thought pattern change that they have worked on with their coach. Many coaching techniques are based on NLP.
