Your Business Success Pyramid -- How to Attract Ideal Clients to Your Business
Every small business has four things in common: 1) An owner/proprietor 2) A business idea and business plan 3) A marketing plan 4) A target market Like every diligent business owner, you have developed your business idea and probably created a solid business plan to articulate your business objectives and business structure. You have done your research, and you know who your target market is and how what your business does or makes or offers should appeal to them. If you are planning for success, and all business owners are, you have invested in a website, and other marketing tools, and may even have a formal marketing plan so that you can reach your target market as effectively as possible. If asked to draw a diagram of your business, you might come up with something like this, with your business plan, marketing plan and target market marking the key points: Business Triangle Diagram
But now, as you reflect on this diagram, where is the reference point for you, the business owner or proprietor? Where do you belong in this picture? If you are like most small business owners, you might say, “I belong everywhere in this picture, because without me there is no business!” And you would be right. You are the common factor in all aspects of your business. As the principal driving force behind your business, you are involved in every aspect of your business, even if you are (very sensibly) not performing every business task yourself. Whether you are building a sole proprietorship or nurturing an infant corporation, your business success depends on one thing and one thing alone—YOU! Yet, how often have you heard that the secret to success is to “get out of your own way”? How can you do this if you are knee-deep in every aspect of your business? How do you “get out of your own way” if you are the business? The trick is to shift your perspective by removing yourself to a level above the work-a-day plane of doing your business, so that you can see where best to direct your energies. You must still be part of the whole, while able to see both the forest and the trees. Change the two-dimensional, flat-land triangle that describes your business into a three-dimensional pyramid with you at the apex--et voilà, you have just created a model of Your Business Success Pyramid! Three Dimensional Model—Your Business Success Pyramid
YOU remain at the core of your business, and you are also set apart with a bird’s eye view of every aspect of the business. You are no longer mired-in knee-deep, but now have a commanding view, atop the most stable structure in the world—your business success pyramid. And for the first time you also have a visible line of communication and action directly from you to each of three critical features of your business: your business systems, your marketing strategy and your ideal clients. And because it is YOU, and not your neighbour or your uncle or your best friend running this business, it is crucial that you understand yourself and how what you do, say, think and feel impacts on your business success. You are the focal point and the energy generator for your business.
